Epidemiology of Antimicrobial Resistance of S. aureus Isolated from ICU Patients in Russia: Results of Prospective Multicenter Study

Objective. To determine in vitro activity of antimicrobials against S. aureus isolated from ICU patients in different regions of Russia. Materials and Methods. A total of 998 clinical strains of S.aureus isolated in 2004-2005 from 998 patients hospitalized in ICU of 32 medical institutions in different parts of Russia. Susceptibility to 16 antimicrobials was determined by agar dilution method in accordance with CLSI recommendations. Results. The prevalence of MRSA among tested strains was 49.

Aminoglycosides: Perspectives for Clinical Use in Russia

The susceptibility to aminoglycoside antimicrobials of Gram-negative nosocomial pathogens in Russia and mechanisms of aminoglycoside resistance has been studied. The production of aminoglycoside-modifying enzymes remains to be the major mechanism of …

Antimicrobial Resistance Patterns of Gram-negative Nosocomial Pathogens in Russian ICUs

In vitro susceptibility study of 3042 gram-negative nosocomial strains isolated during 2002-04 from patients with nosocomial infections in 34 Russian ICUs was performed (in the framework «RESORT» survey). The following antibiotics were tested: …

Problems of Epidemiological Studies of Nosocomial Infections in Russia

Nowadays nosocomial infections (NI) remain one of the crucial problems in public health service all over the world. Though antiepidemic actions, the prevalence, mortality rates and NI therapy costs continue to increase. According to the data of …

20-Year History of Carbapenems: Current Microbiological and Clinical Aspects

The carbapenems are one of the most important classes of antimicrobial agents with an exceptionally broad spectrum of in vitro activity in association with low toxicity and beneficial pharmacokinetic parameters. Spectrum of activity of imipenem, …

Non-Fermenting GramNegative Nosocomial Pathogens in Russian ICUs: Antimicrobial Resistance Problems

In vitro susceptibility study strains of Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from patients with nosocomial infections in 31 Russian ICUs was performed (in the framework of «RESORT» survey). The following antibiotics were …

Comparative Analysis of Etiology and Antimicrobial Resistance of the Main Nosocomial Pathogens Isolated from the ICUs in Ekaterinburg

Nosocomial infections are very important cause of morbidity and mortality in all developed countries. Results of antimicrobial resistance surveillance performed in the intensive care units of Ekaterinburg (Russia) are presented in the paper. The …

Trends in the Prevalence and Susceptibility of ESBL-producing Entererobacteriaceae to Various Antimicrobial Agents in Russian ICUs

The prevalence of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) production in nosocomial Enterobacteriaceae isolated in ICUs of various regions of Russia in 1997–1998 and 2003 was studied. We report the dramatic increase in the incidence of ESBLs, attributed …
