Objective. Objective: To assess the level, structure and phenotypes of antimicrobial resistance of Streptococcus pneumoniae in different regions of Russia and to evaluate their dynamics in period from 1999 to 2005.
Materials and Methods. A total of 1704 S. pneumoniae from 23 cities of Central, North-Western, Southern, Privolgsk, Ural, Siberian and Far-Eastern regions of Russia were included into the study from 1999 to 2005. Susceptibility to 17 antimicrobials was determined by microdilution in accordance with Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute/National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (CLSI/NCCLS).
