Pharmacodynamics of meropenem and meropenem combined with avibactam against Klebsiella pneumoniae in an in vitro dynamic model

Objective. To study pharmacodynamics of meropenem alone and in combination with avibactam in an in vitro dynamic model; to evaluate effectiveness of meropenem against K. pneumoniae strains producing and not producing carbapenemases; to study impact of bacterial inoculum on meropenem activity and its effects. Materials and Methods. K. pneumoniae producing KPC and OXA-48 carbapenemases and non-producing strains were exposed to meropenem or its combination with avibactam (carbapenemase-producing strains only) in a modified in vitro hollow-fiber infection model (pneumoniae) simulating human pharmacokinetics of drugs administrated thrice daily for 5 days.

Role of procalcitonin/ferritin ratio in the differential diagnosis of viral and bacterial lung injury

Objective. To determine role of ferritin (FT), procalcitonin (PCT) and their ratio (FT/PCT) in the differential diagnosis of viral lung injury and bacterial community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). Materials and Methods. A prospective multicenter study included adult patients with CAP hospitalized in multidisciplinary hospitals from July to November 2023. All patients had their PCT and FT levels determined in addition to the standard examination protocol. Etiological diagnostics included microbiological examination of a respiratory sample and blood (in severe cases), rapid tests for pneumococcal and legionella antigenuria, and molecular testing of respiratory samples to detect DNA/RNA of the most common respiratory viruses and difficult-to-culture or non-cultivate bacterial pathogens.

Biofilm formation of clinical isolates of opportunistic microorganisms under the influence of disinfectants

Impact of nutrient medium composition on protein profiling of Bordetella spp.

Objective. To perform comparative analysis of Bordetella protein profiling data and their dependence on various nutrient media. Materials and Methods. This prospective open single-center study, the protein profiles of B. pertussis, B. parapertussis, and B. bronchiseptica were studied; they had been grown on nutrient media with prescription combinations. We used casein-coal agar, Borde-Gengou Agar, Regan-Lowe Charcoal Agar as the basis of the nutrient medium. Defibrinated horse, sheep, human donor blood and human donor RBCs were used as a blood component.

A study of antimicrobial effect of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum 8P-A3 supernatant on nosocomial isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae and Acinetobacter baumannii

Objective. To study antimicrobial effect of extracellular metabolites of probiotic L. plantarum 8P-A3 strain on antibiotic-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae and Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from infected wounds. Materials and Methods. Сharacterization of Klebsiella pneumoniae paired strains isolated from pediatric patients

Objective. To analyze and compare multidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (KP) strains isolated from different sites of the same patients. Materials and Methods. A total of 30 KP strains isolated from 15 patients treated in intensive care and surgical units in 2020–2021 were studied. Two strains isolated from one child were selected for analyses. One strain was isolated from a clinically significant site (blood/urine/wound/endotracheal aspirate or sputum), the other from a monitoring site (stool).

Microbiological activity of bovhyaluronidaze azoximer against microbial biofilms

Objective. To evaluate the ability of bovhyaluronidaze azoximer to destroy biofilms formed by clinical strains of microorganisms. Materials and Methods. The study included 50 clinical strains of Staphylococcus aureus (n = 25), Staphylococcus epidermidis (n = 6), Enterococcus faecalis (n = 8), Escherichia coli (n = 9), Candida albicans (n = 2). Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed using broth microdilution method. Biofilm formation culturing in presence of antibiotics, or bovhyaluronidaze azoximer, or their combinations was assessed in Mueller-Hinton broth and brain heart broth in 96-well plates.

Population structure and genetic characteristics of Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates from children with chronic respiratory diseases

Objective. To study the population and genetic structure of S. pneumoniae isolated from children with cystic fibrosis (CF) and congenital malformations of the bronchi and lungs (CM) over the period 2011 to 2021, their serotype diversity in pre-vaccination and post-vaccination periods and susceptibility to antimicrobials. Antimicrobial resistance of Mycobacterium avium during the COVID-19 pandemic

Objective. Conduct a comparative assessment of the frequency and spectrum of antimicrobial resistance of Mycobacterium avium isolated from patients of a phthisiopulmonology clinic in the pre-Covid period (2018–2019) and during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020–2023). Materials and Methods. The antimicrobial sensitivity of M. avium isolates was determined to 8 antimicrobial drugs: amikacin, clarithromycin, linezolid, moxifloxacin, ciprofloxacin, doxycycline, rifabutin, rifampicin.
