Abstract

The review deals with modern methods of indication of infectious agents in the blood. From methodological point of view, they can be divided into two main groups: bacteriologic and molecular. The first group of methods used and improved almost from the beginning of a microbiology as a science. The second one has been developing over the last two decades. The advantages and disadvantages of different methods of laboratory diagnosis of sepsis and bacteremia were analysed. The need for further improvement and standardization of molecular methods for laboratory diagnosis of bloodstream infections is highlighted.
