Abstract
Currently, there is an ever-increasing consumption of probiotics contained in foods, food supplements, and medicinal products. A number of studies to determine efficacy of those products in different medical conditions is also increasing. Meanwhile, safety of probiotic-containing products administration in humans is not fully known. In Europe, no formal safety assessment procedure for probiotics contained in food supplements is established. This paper presents the results of a microbiological study of probiotic preparation «Linex» (Sandoz). Species identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing for bacterial strains contained in the product were performed in this study. All testing were conducted according to the proposed by the international expert organizations approaches to the safety assessment of live microorganisms-containing products.
