Abstract
In this review currently available data on the etiological diagnosis, management and treatment of encephalitis are discussed in accordance with the principles of evidence-based medicine. The article represents data in this research field, including recent IDSA guidelines. Standards of encephalitis definition, clinical and epidemiological features of various causative agents, diagnostic approaches and therapy depending on presumptive or confirmed etiology are described.
