Assessment of biofilmforming activity of Fusarium solani isolated from patients’ skin

Objective. To study pathogenic factors (adhesion and biofilm formation) in F. solani isolated from skin of patients Materials and methods. A total of 86 strains of F. solani isolated from the skin of patients with a diagnosis of L30.3 “Infectious dermatitis” were selected. The reference strain F. solani F-819 was used for quality control. Samples were collected using a sterile cotton swab from an area of 5 × 5 cm.

The effect of the surgical hemostatic product «Hemoblock»TM on in vitro bacterial colonization

Objective. To evaluate effect of «Haemoblock»TM preparation on in vitro bacterial colonization. Materials and Methods. Activity of «Haemoblock»ТМ product on the growth and colonization of S. aureus АТСС 25923, S. epidermidis ATCC 28922, E. coli АТСС 25922, P. aeruginosa АТСС 27853 cells in the suspension and on the surface of monofilament macroporous polyester mesh was evaluated. Results. This product at concentration of 0.062% and above inhibited bacterial growth and reduced biofilm mass and bacterial cell viability.

Experimental evidence of antimicrobial effect of silver-coated silicon urological catheters

Objective. To study the colonization activity of clinical strains of uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) against various types of urological catheters. Materials and Methods. Biofilms of E. coli (n = 6) were formed for 24 h according to the standard method. Urological catheters made from latex, polyvinylchloride, silicon and silver-coated silicon were used as a surface for bacterial colonization. The surface roughness and hydrophobicity, biofilm mass, number of colony forming units in biofilm, and frequency of conjugation were assessed.

Susceptibility to antiseptic preparations in biofilm-forming Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from burn wounds

The article presents data on susceptibility to antiseptic preparations in antibiotic-resistant S. aureus and P. aeruginosa strains isolated from burn wounds, which were tested in single-species and double-species biofilms with varying degrees …

Biofilm formation by Candida spp. isolated from blood culture in patients with or without hematological malignancies

Objective. To evaluate the biofilm formation by isolates of Candida spp. obtained from blood culture in patients with or without hematological malignancies. Materials and Methods. Biofilm formation by Candida spp. was determined by the method of Pierce C. and Tumbarello M. Isolates with optical density (OD) >0.1 were considered as biofilm-forming. Results. A total of 109 isolates of Candida spp. (C. albicans [n=22], C. parapsilosis [n=22], C. tropicalis [n=22], C.

Biological characteristics and virulence of Helicobacter pylori

his review summarizes the most recent data on the biological characteristics of Helicobacter pylori (morphological, cultural, biochemical). H. pylori pathogenicity factors promoting colonization, adhesion, biofilm formation, aggression, and …

This study was performed to investigate activity of chlorhexidine-based antiseptic preparation «Dezin» against the following pathogens causing nosocomial respiratory tract infections (RTI) and urinary tract infections (UTI): Klebsiella pneumoniae …

Persister Microbial Cells: a Novel View on the Old Problem

This review presents a modern view on persister microbial cells, a specific form of latent cells, which is formed in bacterial and fungal populations in stationary phase of growth. Persister cells are found in planktonic populations as well as …

Medical Problems Associated with Bacterial Biofilms

This paper represents a review of currently available data on microbial communities and biofilms as an important clinical problem. Structure and morphology of microbial biofilm as well as stages and mechanisms of its formation, and genes and factors …

Bacterial Biofilms – a New Therapeutic Target?

Biofilms are very specialized but at the same time very widespread form of bacterial existence. Nowadays it is well understood that biofilms play significant role in many human infections. That is way recently a number of research project are …
