Prevalence of Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Chlamydophila pneumoniae in patients with exacerbation of COPD in the autumn-winter period 2022–2023 in Smolensk region

Objective. To determine prevalence of M. pneumoniae, C. pneumoniae in patients with exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in the autumn-winter period 2022–2023 in the Smolensk region. Materials and Methods. The study involved 53 patients with exacerbation of COPD who applied to the State Medical Institution «KB No. 1» in Smolensk for medical help. The clinical material for the study was a scrape from the posterior wall of the pharynx.

Experience in creating a closed digital loop for continuous antimicrobial resistance surveillance based on validated microbiological test results

Objective. To implement a closed digital loop for continuous antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance based on validated microbiological diagnostic results. Materials and Methods. A prospective study was conducted at the Federal State Autonomous Institution «National Medical Research Center for Treatment and Rehabilitation» of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation from May 2024 to September 2025. An audit of the initial state of processes, a SWOT analysis, software restructuring, data flow optimization and standardization of diagnostic methods in accordance with EUCAST recommendations were performed.

Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium in hematology: susceptibility to antimicrobial agents and clonal diversity

Objective. To study the antimicrobial resistance and clonal diversity of vancomycin-resistant E. faecium in hematology. Materials and Methods. Vancomycin-resistant E. faecium (VR-E. faecium) isolated from the blood culture of patients in six hospitals of Russia (2005–2023). Antimicrobial susceptibility of VR-E. faecium were determined by serial broth micro dilution was (CLSI, 2024), to tigecycline assessed according to EUCAST, 2025. Vancomycin-resistance genes (vanA, vanB) in VR-E. faecium were detected by multiplex PCR.

A study of antibiotic resistance of hyper virulent Klebsiella pneumoniae strains isolated from patients of perinatal centers in various regions of the Russian Federation

Objective. To study genetic determinants of resistance and virulence of K. pneumoniae strains received by the reference center for the prevention of the spread of biological threats of the National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology named after Academician V.I. Kulakov of Ministry of Healthcare of Russian Federation. Materials and Methods. The study included 153 strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from the biological material of pregnant women and newborns in Perinatal centers in various regions of the Russian Federation with infectious and inflammatory diseases and included in the collection of opportunistic microorganisms of the reference center in 2023.

An integrated monitoring system for antimicrobial consumption and resistance forecasting using dynamic models

Objective. Development and validation of a suite of mathematical models to predict national-level antimicrobial resistance (AMR) trends by integrating antimicrobial consumption (AMC) and current AMR data. Materials and Methods. Data on systemic antimicrobial consumption across 82 regions of the Russian Federation (2008–2022; source: IQVIA) and AMR levels (2013–2022; source: AMRmap.ru) were analyzed. The workflow included regional name normalization, exclusion of antimicrobials with low clinical relevance, calculation of moving averages (3–10 years) for AMR parameters, and AMC quantification in Defined Daily Doses (DDD).

Comparative activity of meropenem and biapenem and their combinations with colistin against Gram-negative microorganisms-producers of carbapenemases from various groups

Objective. To conduct a comparative in vitro analysis of the activity of biapenem and meropenem, as well as to evaluate the efficacy of their combinations with colistin against clinical isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa producing carbapenemases of different molecular classes. Materials and Methods. The study included 197 carbapenem-resistant clinical isolates of K. pneumoniae, A. baumannii and P. aeruginosa with a phenotype of multidrug (MDR) and extensively drug (XDR) resistance.

Analysis of cytomegalovirus resistance mutations and clinical features of CMV infection in immunocompromised children

Objective. To determine frequency and spectrum of cytomegalovirus (CMV) resistance mutations to antiviral drugs in immunocompromised children. To study clinical course of resistant CMV infection in this patient population. Materials and Methods. This prospective study included 120 patients of the Dmitry Rogachev NMRC PHOI who mainly were recipients of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) with confirmed CMV infection (median age – 8.9 years). The study inclusion criterion was the possible development of CMV drug resistance.

Genetic diversity of Chlamydia trachomatis in Russia

Objective. To investigate the genetic diversity of the Russian population of C. trachomatis. Materials and Methods. We analyzed 42 clinical isolates of C. trachomatis obtained in 2024. MLST typing was performed using the Uppsala scheme (genes CT058, CT144, CT172, hctB, pbpB) and sequencing of the ompA gene for serotype determination. Results. 8 serotypes (E – 50.0% predominates) and 26 sequence types (ST) were identified, including 8 new ones (19.0% of isolates).

Macrocidins A and Z: assessment of antibacterial and antibiofilm activity

Objective. To compare antibacterial activity of macrocidins A and Z against staphylococci and their effect on staphylococcal biofilms. Materials and Methods. The antibacterial activity of macrocidins A and Z produced by Didymella baileyae VIZR 1.53 was studied by serial dilution method against 120 staphylococcal cultures isolated from orthopedic patients. The effect of macrocidins on biofilm formation of 60 S. aureus clinical cultures was assessed by O’Toole method by co-incubation of active substances with bacteria and subsequent MBIC50/90.

PIKAP study: physicians’ preferences for drug selection and management of pregnant women with bacterial genitourinary infections

Objective. To analyze physicians’ preferences regarding the pharmacotherapy of bacterial genitourinary infections (UTI) in pregnant women and assess their compliance with current clinical guidelines. Materials and Methods. The study was conducted over 2018–2022 using an anonymous questionnaire method among physicians in seven regions of Russia. A total of 227 healthcare providers participated, of whom 66.8% were general practitioners and 33.2% were obstetricians/gynecologists. Results. According to the analysis, there is an insufficient level of knowledge in the field of pharmacotherapy of UTIs in pregnant women.
