Regional system for automated validation of microbiological reports and antimicrobial resistance monitoring: the experience of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug

Objective. Creation and evaluation of the effectiveness of an integrated system for automatic validation of microbiological reports and monitoring of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) on real time at the regional level within the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (YNAO). Materials and Methods. The prospective study was conducted from October 2023 to June 2025, based on the Medical Information and Analytical Center and five largest hospitals in the YNAO. The study design included a comparative analysis of AMR monitoring status before and after the implementation of the digital platform.

Genetic determinants of antibiotic resistance in Staphylococcus aureus isolated from patients with chronic lung infection in cystic fibrosis

Objective. To investigate antibiotic resistance of S. aureus isolates from cystic fibrosis (CF) patients with chronic lung infection and to identify its genetic determinants. Materials and Methods. The antibiotic susceptibility of 629 S. aureus isolates from pediatric and adult CF patients was analyzed using the disk diffusion method and E-test in accordance with EUCAST guidelines. All strains were screened by PCR for the presence of the mecA and mecC genes.

Population structure of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in the Russian Federation: role of high-risk clones in spread of carbapenemases and carbapenem resistance

Objective. To determine the population structure of clinical P. aeruginosa isolates recovered from hospitals in different regions of Russia and to assess the role of high-risk clones in the dissemination of carbapenemases and carbapenem resistance. Materials and Methods. The study included consecutive, non-duplicate clinical isolates of P. aeruginosa (N = 1379) obtained from 55 hospitals across 30 Russian cities over a 24-month period. Species identification was performed using MALDI-TOF mass-spectrometry.

Molecular and genetic features of pathogens in patients with unfavorable course of tuberculosis and HIV infection

Objective. To study molecular and genetic features of M. tuberculosis (MTB) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in patients with unfavorable course of HIV infection and tuberculosis. Materials and Methods. A total of 105 patients with HIV infection and newly diagnosed tuberculosis in whom tuberculosis was confirmed by microbiological and molecular genetic methods were included. The follow-up period was at least 6 months. Based on the results of the examination during treatment, all patients were divided into two groups: group 1 – patients with favorable course of HIV infection and tuberculosis (n = 78), group 2 – patients with unfavorable course of HIV infection and tuberculosis (n = 27).

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on daily life and mental health in healthcare professionals

Objective. To assess impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on daily life and mental health of healthcare professionals in public medical institutions of the Russian Federation from their perspective and their attitude to the healthcare system’s response measures. Materials and Methods. From September to October 2024, as part of the qualitative data study, a semi-structured interview survey was conducted among 32 physicians and 18 nursing staff working during the COVID-19 pandemic in public outpatient and inpatient public medical institutions of the Russian Federation, repurposed or specially deployed to treat patients with COVID-19.

Medical students’ perspectives on sepsis and antimicrobial resistance: findings from a multicenter cross-sectional survey

Objective. To evaluate level of knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) concerning sepsis and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) among medical students in the Russian Federation. Materials and Methods. A multicenter, cross-sectional survey was conducted among students from six medical universities using a validated questionnaire (Cronbach’s alpha: 0.74) developed based on the Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices (KAP) model. Results. The study included 1052 respondents, comprising 315 (29.9%) males and 737 (70.1%) females, with a median age of 22 [21; 24] years.

Molecular biological features of Streptococcus agalactiae strains isolated from pregnant women and women in labor in various regions of the Russian Federation

Objective. To study molecular biological features of Streptococcus agalactiae strains isolated from pregnant women and women in labor in various regions of the Russian Federation. Materials and Methods. The study included 205 S. agalactiae strains isolated from pregnant women and women in labor in various regions of the Russian Federation for the period 2022–2023. The strains were isolated from vaginal rectal smears of pregnant women during screening at 35–37 weeks of gestation and from vaginal discharge of women in labor.

Development and validation of a PCR test for rapid molecular diagnosis of macrolide-resistant Mycoplasma pneumoniae

Objective. To develop and conduct the first stage of validation for a PCR test that identifies key mutations in the V domain of the 23S rRNA gene of M. pneumoniae (A2058G, A2059G, and A2062C). This test allows for the identification of macrolide-resistant M. pneumoniae strains in samples of native biological material. Materials and Methods. The study included a panel of M. pneumoniae DNA samples (n = 107) from the collection of the DeMaRes multicenter study, as well as native material (n = 52).

Assessment of bactericidal effect of volume-porous composite materials impregnated with silver on Mycobacterium tuberculosis

Objective. Determination of the antimycobacterial efficacy of a composite material impregnated with silver in relation to M. tuberculosis. Materials and Methods. Samples of the outer shell of bulk porous composite materials with antimycobacterial substances included in the structure (silver (Ag) nanoparticles, as well as silver proteinate) were obtained at the Kurchatov Institute. In total, two types of samples with different particle contents were obtained: chitosan Ag and chitosan Ag2. To obtain an outer shell with an impregnated silver proteinate complex from chitosan Primex 43040 with glutaraldehyde: an aqueous solution of silver proteinate with different concentrations («chitosan Pr» and «chitosan Pr2») was added.

Objective. To assess impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the structure of pathogens causing periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) and the dynamics of their antibiotic resistance. Materials and Methods. A retrospective analysis of 379 strains of microorganisms isolated from patients with PJI of the knee and hip joints who underwent surgical treatment at the Federal Center for Traumatology and Orthopedics from 2018 to 2024 was performed. The biological material for the study was synovial fluid samples, tissue biopsies, aspirates from removed implants after ultrasonic treatment.
