The rating of medical errors in the use of antimicrobials: retrospective clinical pharmacological analysis

Abstract

Examination of rational pharmacotherapy is one of the major functional duties of the doctor – the clinical pharmacologist. Chemotherapy as etiotropic therapy is one of the most important types of pharmacotherapy. A retrospective analysis of case histories and assignments leaves of a multi-disciplinary hospital, working in the regime of emergency medical services, showed a dominant number of comments associated with the violation in terms of antimicrobials, especially in the departments of urology, purulent surgery and intensive care. The author gives the rating of medical errors in the appointment of antimicrobials, leading position in which is: the choice of the initial antibiotic, the non-observance of the safety profile and irrational combinations of antimicrobial agents and the transitions from one stage of treatment to another. The result of the analysis is to develop activities for the prevention of occurrence of violations of the rational prescription of antimicrobial agents.
