Abstract

In this paper the main results of intervention campaign carried out among physicians and patients in different outpatient settings of Smolensk region are presented and discussed. The campaign aimed to improve the practice of antibacterial therapy in adults and children with acute tonsillopharyngitis and promote usage of throat culture to identify group A streptococci (GAS). The significant improvement of systemic antimicrobials choice, as well as increase the proportion of patients with throat culture performed before antibacterial therapy was revealed. The rate of antibiotic prescribing for patients with acute tonsillopharyngitis has not changed significantly after implementation of the campaign.
