Abstract

Pregnancy is an important risk factor for the development of bacterial vaginosis. According to the data of epidemiological studies, the prevalence of this disorder in pregnant women varies from 10% to 40% in different countries. In USA estimated population risk of preterm delivery related to bacterial vaginosis comes to 30% and value at $ 1 billion annually. In the present article the etiology and epidemiology of bacterial vaginosis are described in details. Special attention is paid to the discussion of available treatment options.
