Публикация содержит обзор рекомендаций по антибиотикопрофилактике в травматологии и ортопедии. Современная ортопедия включает использование разнообразных внутрикостных и внешних металлических конструкций, замену целых сегментов конечности и суставов и предполагает использование пациентом крупных имплантов в течение многих лет жизни. Всё это изменило характер послеоперационных инфекционных осложнений и повлекло за собой пересмотр рекомендаций по антибиотикопрофилактике. Рост числа поздних инфекционных осложнений, изменение микробной этиологии инфекций области хирургического вмешательства, необходимость удаления или замещения металлических конструкций, значительная хирургическая агрессия при повторных вмешательствах связанная с этим, внесли существенные изменения в стратегию антибиотикопрофилактики в травматологии и ортопедии.
