Abstract

Bacterial vaginosis is a common disease of female genital tract. It is characterised by substitution of lactobacteriae, which are predominant part of normal vaginal flora, with Gardnerella vaginalis and anaerobes, and has serious social and medical consequences. Tinidazole (second generation 5-nitro-imidazole) is at least as effectve as standard treatments of bacterial vaginosis, such as metronidazole and clindamycin, and demonstrates better tolerability compared to metronidazole. Therefore, tinidazole may be an option in the treatment of this disease.
