Abstract

The role of Mycoplasma hominis, Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasma genitalium in the etiology of urogenital infections has been studied. In the study group (n=92) patients with gonococcal and chlamydial infections as well as with bacterial vaginosis and HSV were excluded. All patients were HIV negative. The above infections were also exclusion criteria for the control group (n=42). Multiplex PCR was used for the detection of M. hominis, U. urealyticum and M. genitalium. In the study group U. urealyticum was the most frequently detected compared to the control group (p<0.001). M. hominis, and M. genitalium were less frequently found in study group with no statistically significant difference compare to control group.
