Candida spp. peritonitis (clinical cases, register analysis and literature review)

We present a case of fungal peritonitis in a patient secondary to intestinal perforation and repeated laparotomy. An analysis of data from the register of patients with invasive candidiasis is also presented. In the study were included 42 patients …

The current place of echinocandins in the treatment and prophylaxis of invasive fungal infections

Invasive fungal infections continue to show steady growth among various patient populations, accompanied by high rates of both morbidity and attributive mortality. For the treatment of invasive mycoses, a few number of drugs are currently available, …

Some issues of the resistance of Candida glabrata to echinocandins

Invasive candidiasis is a common, severe and often difficult to treat complication in various categories of patients. Despite the fact that in most cases Candida albicans retains a leading position as an etiological cause, a pathogen such as Candida …

Susceptibility testing of Candida glabrata clinical strains to echinocandins using SensititreTM YeastOneTM system

Objective. To determine susceptibility of C. glabrata isolates to anidulafungin, caspofungin and micafungin using the SensititreTM YeastOneTM system. Materials and Methods. C. glabrata isolates were taken prospectively from clinical specimens or from strains collections in the participating sites. Susceptibility determination was performed using SensititreTM YeastOneTM (YO10 panel) according to the manufacturer’s guidance, and results were interpreted with M27-A3 CLSI guidelines. Susceptibility of C. glabrata to fluconazole was also determined in order to assess possible correlations of echinocandins and fluconazole minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) in resistant strains.

Review of the guidelines for the treatment and prevention of invasive candidiasis in newborns and children

nvasive infections caused by Candida species are the most common invasive fungal infections in children of different age groups. Premature neonates, especially newborns with low and extremely low birth-weight, have very high mortality rates, with the …

Candida glabrata Resistance to Echinocandins Associated with FKS Genes Mutations: How Urgent is the Problem?

The resistance of the systemic Candida infections causative agents is a cornerstone of the selection of an effective therapy. But if before the problem was limited to resistance to azole antifungals, then by now we have enough data about cases of …
