Genomic characterization of oxacillin-susceptible mecA-positive Staphylococcus aureus ST59

Objective. To characterize the genomes of oxacillin-susceptible mecA-positive Staphylococcus aureus ST59 isolated in St. Petersburg. Materials and Methods. Nine oxacillin-susceptible mecA-positive of S. aureus isolates (OS-MRSA) of ST59 were included in the study. The isolates were obtained from children who showed no clinical signs of staphylococcal infections during nasal screening of S. aureus in St. Petersburg in 2018–2019. One isolate was obtained from an adult patient with skin and soft tissue infection (SSTI).

Antimicrobial resistance of staphylococci in pediatric hospitals

Objective. To determine frequency of Staphylococcus isolation and antimicrobial resistance in hospitalized children with different types of infections. Materials and Methods. Species identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing in staphylococci were performed on a WalkAway 96 analyzer using Pos Combo type 20 tablets, and mecA gene detection was performed on a RotorGene 6000 amplifier with a set of AmpliSens MRSA-screen FL. Results. A total of 876 strains of staphylococci isolated in children’s hospitals were tested.

Dalbavancin in the treatment of skin and soft tissue infections

Dalbavancin is a semi-synthetic lipoglycopeptide registered for the treatment of acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections caused by Gram-positive microorganisms, including MRSA. It has a prolonged half-life and excellent tissue levels which …

New and old oxazolidinones: tedizolid vs. linezolid

Tedizolid is a novel oxazolidinone that has been recently approved for the treatment of acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSIs) caused by Gram-positive pathogens, including MRSA. The mechanism of action of tedizolid is similar to …

Antimicrobial resistance of nosocomial Staphylococcus aureus isolates in Russia: results of multicenter epidemiological study «MARATHON» 2013-2014

The study included 418 of the 841 clinical isolates of S. aureus, which were regarded as nosocomial. These 418 clinical nosocomial S. aureus strains were isolated in 2013-2014 from patients hospitalized in 25 hospitals in 19 Russian cities. …

Potential of the Introduction of Tedizolid for the Treatment of Complicated Skin and Soft Tissue Infections in a Russian Multi-Field Hospital

Increase in prevalence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains among the pathogens of complicated skin and soft tissue infections (cSSTIs) in hospitalised patients demands introduction of new treatment options with improved …

Antimicrobial Resistance of Microorganisms Causing Chronic Post-Traumatic Osteomyelitis

This paper presents the results of a microbiological study of clinical specimens obtained from 64 patients with chronic post-traumatic osteomyelitis of long bones during the 2011–2013. A total of 136 clinical strains were isolated and identified to a …

Telavancin — New Antimicrobial Active Against Multiresistant Gram-Positive Pathogens. Clinical and Microbiological Features in Questions and Answers

Telavancin is a first marketed representative of semisinthetic lipoglycopeptides — new generation of glycopeptide antimicrobials. Telavancin is registered for the treatment of nosocomial pneumonia and skin and soft tissue infections caused by Gram(+) …

Antimicrobial Resistance of Nosocomial Staphylococcus aureus Isolates in Russia: Results of National Multicenter Surveillance Study «MARATHON» 2011–2012

In total 284 clinical nosocomial S. aureus strains isolated in 2011–2012 from patients hospitalized in 25 hospitals in 18 Russian cities were included in the study. Susceptibility to 19 antimicrobials was assessed by serial dilution method in …

Biofilm Formation by Clinical Isolates of S. aureus and S. epidermidis in Prosthetic Joint Infection

Objective. Objectives. In vitro study of biofilm forming capacity of S. aureus and S. epidermidis strains, most common etiological agents of PJI following orthopedic surgeries, depending on source of strain, species of etiological agent and methicillin susceptibility. Materials and Methods. 241 S. aureus and 153 S. epidermidis strains, isolated from the tissue biopsies, the join aspirates and removed orthopedic prosthesis in 2012 year from 321 patients with PJI were investigated.
