Abstract

This review contains information on the most common cause of infectious complications of early postoperative cataract surgery, and in particular endophthalmitis, its etiology, the role of the normal microflora in the development of infectious complications. In addition, the article describes the methods of antibacterial prophylaxis of endophthalmitis before surgery, during and after it. Besides the article compared the clinical effectiveness of the various methods for perioperative antibacterial support, based on the susceptibility of microorganisms to antimicrobials, the ability of drugs from various groups to penetrate and accumulate in eye tissues at different routes of administration.
