Abstract

Incidence rates of Acinetobacter spp. isolated from tissue specimens and wound samples in patients with severe burns, chronic osteomyelitis, and diabetic foot infections were determined during the 5 years (2008– 2012). Antimicrobial resistance of Acinetobacter baumannii strains was also tested. Carbapenem resistance among A. baumannii isolated from burn patients and patients with chronic osteomyelitis was 62.1% and 25.2%, respectively. Carbapenem-resistant A. baumannii strains were tested for genes encoding metallo-beta-lactamases (MBL) and acquired ОХА-type carbapenemases. A total of 91% of isolates found to carry OXA-40-like genes, whereas no MBL-producing A. baumannii isolates were detected.
