Abstract

Spiramycin, natural 16-membered macrolide antibiotic, was discovered in 1954. This antimicrobial agent is at least non-inferior to and has some advantages over the currently available macrolides in spectrum of activity, pharmacological properties, and unique mechanism of action, clinical efficacy and safety. This paper reviews main properties of spiramycin and possibilities of its use in clinical practice.
