Abstract

Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome is one of the most common diseases in urology which is difficult to diagnose and treat. According to current international guidelines, choice of approach to the management of patients with chronic prostatitis depends on localization of pathological process in urinary tract, clinical type of the disease, and etiology. This paper reviews modern microbiological aspects of prostatitis, as well as its epidemiology and classification. The role of Gram-positive cocci and other possible pathogens as causative agents of chronic prostatitis is also discussed.
